About Angela & Scott (and Happy too!)

Happy, our family dog

Hi! My name is Happy and I’d like to introduce my adoptive parents, Angela and Scott. They adopted me in July of 2004 when I was just eight weeks old. They are great! Mom wakes me up every morning with a back rub and Dad plays fetch with me every day when he comes home from work. They’ve taught me to recognize human words such as ball, rope, bed, treat and walk.

I love going for walks. We live in a great neighborhood with lots of kids. We have a big hill in our backyard that is great for sledding, a pool with really cool lights, and a fire pit for making S'mores! We go camping yearly and often go on Halloween weekend with our cousins. We carve pumpkins, walk the haunted trail, and give candy out to the trick-or-treaters. At Christmas time we go to see Dad’s family and on Christmas Eve spend the evening with the entire family (its huge!). Grandpa starts the evening off with reading “The Night Before Christmas” to all the children. It’s a great family tradition.

During the summer, Mom and Dad host a really fun Luau themed party. They decorate the deck with leis, coconuts, and pineapples and ask everyone to bring a Hawaiian dish. This past year Dad made a Tiki bar to serve drinks from poolside and it was huge hit!

In January of 2011 our family was blessed by adoption when my brother Ryan joined our family. I love licking him, eating the food he drops on the floor and now he’s rolling the ball for me to fetch. We are doing fun things as a family like going to the beach, taking walks in the park, we saw fire trucks at the Fire Department open house and went pumpkin pickin’ at Halloween. Now they want to provide us with a sibling to play with and love.

They each wrote a little about each other, and I'd love to share that with you below:

Angela, the Adoptive Mother

Angela was born in Maryland and has lived there the majority of her life. Her parents died when she was young and she was raised by her grandmother. She has two brothers, one sister, five cousins, and three nephews. We see her family frequently for birthdays, family get-togethers, and holiday parties. She has always loved children and started babysitting at the age of ten. By the age of 12 she had a thriving babysitting business and was sought out by the entire community for her services. She attended a private parochial school through eighth grade where she participated in her church choir and took piano lessons. She also participated in Girl Scouts and cheerleading making a lot of friends that she still speaks with today. When she graduated high school she went to work for the Government full time while attending the local community college part time, where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business. She continued her education in the evenings at the University of Maryland University College, graduating in 1999 Cum Laude in Business Management while working full time.

Angela is a great mom! She is loving, patient, and has a great sense of humor. She is very outgoing and loves to entertain. Our children will learn the social skills from her that they will need to be happy and successful in life. She is also very sentimental and keeps a scrapbook/photo album of everything we do including vacations, sporting events, shows, and concerts. She loves pictures and takes the camera everywhere we go. She enjoys the outdoors and going for walks either around the neighborhood or on hiking trails. When she was a child, her great aunt would come for visits and they would walk the two miles to the Baskin Robbins store to get ice cream (this started when she was 3). She would go to the beach each year with her grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She and her cousin would walk the beach for hours and then sleep outside on the balcony listening to the waves crash and wake up to the beautiful sunrise.

Angela met a wonderful group of women in a support group for infertility and wanted to give back to help others so she hosts an adoption support group and volunteers for an adoption organization.

Scott, the Adoptive Father

Scott smiling.

Scott is an only child. He was born in North Carolina and moved to Florida when he was 10. His father is a Bio-Chemist that worked for the Environmental Protection Agency until he retired in 2003. His father is one of 11 siblings, which equates to a huge family at the holidays. His mother is a Bank Manager who worked for AmSouth Bank until she retired in 2008. Unfortunately Scott’s grandfather passed away so he will not get to meet his great-grandchild, but his grandmother is enjoying life and is actively involved in the assisted living community she now lives.

Growing up in Florida Scott became an excellent swimmer, participated in Boy Scouts, baseball, and became a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. For fun he went to the beach, rode bikes, played backyard football, racquetball, and went hunting and fishing. He helped his grandfather build his house and his father build a workshop and barn. During his high school years he focused on his schoolwork and was an avid player of strategy, roleplaying, and computer games. He had four best friends whom he stills stays in contact with today. He attended Auburn University and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he took a job with the Government and was fortunate enough to live in Japan for a time. He also attended Johns Hopkins University and earned his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. About this time, he met me through co-workers. He was very shy and quiet and barely spoke a word to me the entire evening, but he listened intently to my discussions. He is a very good listener! He spent the next three weeks trying to get my number. We stayed up until 3 a.m. talking on our first date and have been together ever since! We were married overlooking the beach in St. Lucia. The day was so special, one we will treasure forever.

Scott has a great sense of humor and continues to make me laugh every day. We share a love of music and outdoor activities. In addition to designing and building our deck and shed, he designed the flower beds around our home and together we’ve planted numerous trees and flowers. Scott is a great hands-on dad and is looking forward to teaching his childrenthese skills just as his dad taught him. He’s already planning to teach our children to swim, play sports, camp, be independent and help them with their homework, especially math and science.
